Description
Ye Olde Cellars Inn, located at 3 and 5 High Street, is a building from the 18th century that was originally the residence and shop of a wine merchant. The structure consists of two parallel ranges and is two storeys high, built in two sections. The eastern section features a taller front with a parapet, a three-light bay window on each floor that retains its glazing bars, and a doorcase adorned with pilasters, an open pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight. The western section is timber-framed and has a moulded wooden eaves cornice, along with a half-hipped end to the roof. The first floor of this section has been refaced with curved tiles, a modern door has been inserted, and the glazing bars are missing. Number 5 includes the end window bay at the west end and a projection beyond with a pentice roof that leads to a 19th-century building behind. Numbers 3 to 7 (odd) form a group.
