Description
Amage Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and an extension in the 18th century. It features a timber frame clad with red brick on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building likely originated as an aisled hall and consists of three bays, with a lobby entry that has been present since the 17th century.
The house is two storeys high, with a jettied section at the centre and to the left, both having hipped roofs, while the end left has a cross-hip roof. There are stacks located at the end left and centre right. The first floor has three tripartite wooden casements, and the ground floor has two windows along with a glazing bar sash to the right. A panelled door is situated to the centre right of the façade. At the rear, there is a single storey kitchen wing that was added in the 18th century.
Inside, the framing indicates that the house may have originally been an aisled or single aisled hall, with jettied two-storey end wings. The roof was re-roofed in the 17th century using clasped purlins and re-used smoke-blackened timber, while the roof of the cross-wing remains unaltered.
