Description
There are two rows of headstones located about 5 to 15 metres south of the Church of St. John. The first row contains three headstones, each approximately 2 feet high, featuring scrolled and shaped heads. The first headstone displays trumpets and a cherub head, the second has a skull in profile over crossed bones, and the third is dedicated to Elizabeth Hann, who died in 1729, featuring a winged cherub above a raised and fielded panel.
The second row consists of five headstones, each about 2½ feet high. The northernmost is a double headstone with scrolled shoulders and a double cornice, separated by a small relief death's head that incorporates a motif of a winged hourglass and another death's head. The adjacent stone is around 3 feet high, also with a scrolled shaped head and a skull in profile over bones. Next to it are two similar stones featuring Rocaille scrolled heads; one has a motif of an open book within a heart above a round-headed inscription panel, while the other has an indented rectangular panel. The fifth stone is dedicated to John Home, who died in 1749, and features scrolled shoulders leading to a pediment-shaped cornice with a cherub in a sunburst design.
