Description

Lithend is an 18th-century house, with later 19th-century alterations and minor additions. The walls are of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, featuring rubbed flat arches and stone sills. The roof is tiled, with brick dentil eaves. The building comprises three distinct phases: a late 18th-century main block, a lower wing to the south side dating from an earlier period, and a Victorian single-story north wing. The west front has 1, 2, and 2 storeys, with a 2, 2, and 1 window arrangement. The windows are sash windows; the north wing accommodates narrower Victorian sash windows, although a doorway between them has been filled in. A classical doorcase features a late 18th-century arched opening with a radiating fanlight above a six-panelled door, topped by a late 19th-century open pediment supported by heavy ornamental brackets. The rear elevation presents a three-story south side and a two-story main section, with 1 and 2 windows respectively; these are sash windows, and a plain doorway is set within a trellis porch.
