Description

This building comprises Trout Cottage, The Abbey National, The Stockbridge Pharmacy, and Stockbridge Antiques, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features stuccoed brick and old plain tile roofs.

Trout Cottage is a mid-18th century, two-storey, two-bay cottage with a single-storey bay to the left. To the right is a taller, two-storey, eight-bay building that houses shops. The cottage has a top-lit, six-flush panel door beneath a flat hood. To the left, there is a four-pane sash window with a segmental head and stucco keystone, and in the left addition, there is another four-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are two similar sash windows, with the one above the door being narrower. The roof is hipped to the left with an end stack.

The left four bays of the shops feature pilasters at each end and a plain cornice above the ground floor. In the left bays, there is a tall two-light window and a simple classical doorcase with a recessed door, while to the right is a 19th-century shop front with a recessed central door. On the first floor, the left and third left bays have four-pane sash windows, with a blind opening above the door. The right four bays have a 19th-century shop front to the right of double doors and a large two-light window within an architrave, along with a first-floor band with a blind box above the shop front. To the right, there is a half-glazed door with a blind opening above and a two-storey canted bay. The building features toothed eaves on the hipped roof, with stacks positioned behind the ridge. This structure is included for its group value.
