Description
Andover Lodge, located about 80 metres west-northwest of the Cholderton Road/B3084 junction, is a lodge for a country estate built in 1892, likely designed by Crickmay and Sons for H C Stephens M.P. The building features random unknapped flintwork with ashlar stone dressings on a squared rubble plinth, and it has plain clay tiled gabled roofs along with brick chimney stacks that have moulded stone copings.
The lodge is two storeys high, with gabled elevations on all sides except the north. The south elevation includes a catslide roof at the west end, which has slightly rusticated quoin work. Towards the east end, there is a segmental pointed-arched doorway with a boarded door set in a recess, and above this, in the gable, is a 2-light stone mullioned window without a label.
The east elevation has two bays, with a catslide roof to the north. The first bay features a single pointed-arched light window above, while the second bay has a 5-light mullioned window without a label below and a 3-light window above. The west elevation also has a catslide roof to the north, under which is a pointed arched single-light window. In the main gable, there is a 3-light window on the ground floor and to the right, a mezzanine stair window of one light width, with a 2-light window under another catslide roof to the south. The north elevation matches the others. The interior has not been seen.
