Description

Muss Cottage is a cottage dating back to the 16th century, with partial rebuilding in the 18th century and restoration work in 1980. It is constructed of timber-frame and scantling timber, with a rendered finish. The cottage comprises one bay from the original 16th-century building, which served as the hall, two bays added in the 18th century to the left, and a 20th-century bay at the rear. The front elevation, which is one-and-a-half stories high and three bays wide, has blocked doorways between each bay; the right-hand doorway retains a narrow two-light casement window. Further two-light casement windows, dating to the 20th century, are found in each bay, along with a two-light eyebrow dormer window above. The roof is half-hipped and has chimney stacks at each end of the ridge.
