Description
The Old Vicarage is a vicarage, now a private house, dating from the early 18th century and extended in the late 18th century. It is built of brick in header bond and has an old plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic on a raised basement, with a five-bay by three-bay layout and a low two-storey late 18th-century wing at the rear.
The front elevation features four 2-light casement windows in the basement, each with rubbed brick heads. In the centre, there are perron stairs made of brick with stone treads, consisting of two four-step flights, and adorned with wrought iron railings. At the top of the stairs is a central Doric porch supported by fluted columns and pilasters, topped with a heavily moulded hood. Below this is a five-panel top-lit door and a rectangular fanlight. Flanking the door are 19th-century 12-pane sash windows with rubbed brick arches. Above, there are five original 12-pane sashes, also with rubbed brick arches. The eaves are timber, with dentilled and moulded detailing. The roof is hipped, featuring symmetrical end stacks with small ridged roofs connecting them to the hip. The interior of the building is almost completely unaltered and is of great interest.
