4/14 The byre block about 20 metres north west of Quarley Down Farm House

Byre/stable block. 1894. By Crickmay and Sons for H C Stephens M.P. Red brickwork, mostly rendered externally; plain clay tiled roof with stone slate base courses and raised ridge courses for ventilation. Single-storey. U-plan with projecting end gables, on east-west axis. 8 bays. End bays have tall plinth, with weatherboard cladding over with inset doors, the upper parts of the overhung gables being tile-hung: the centre bays open above high plinth level. Pairs of sliding doors under raked roof sections to end elevations. Inside a channelled concrete floor; simple roof trusses with angled strut and iron rod king-post trusses: originally the central portion of the south roof slope had continuous patent glazing.
