Description
The coach house, dovecote, and linking wall at Awbridge Danes were built between 1822 and 1825 by W. Garbett. They are constructed from rendered brick with stone dressings and feature slate roofs. The layout includes a round dovecote located in the corner of the courtyard, with a wall extending towards the house that leads to a T-shaped coach house. The coach house is one and a half stories tall, has three bays, and a central wing that projects into the courtyard.
The two-story dovecote features a Gothic door and coved plaster eaves beneath a conical roof, which is topped with an open cupola that contains a bell. The entrance hall is marked by two gabled and buttressed gatepiers that stand 4 meters high, with a 3-meter infill wall between them and 2 meters of wall on each side. Historical estate maps indicate that these gatepiers were the original entrance to the courtyard.
The coach house has Gothic double doors facing the dovecote, and in the projecting bay, there is a Gothic door with glazing in the middle, along with a tall leaded Gothic window above it, which is set under a hood mould. A similar window is found in the other bay. The building features coved plaster eaves beneath the overhanging gables, and there are stacks on the front of the roof of the end bay and above the center bay.
