Description

The Middle Section, located at Nos 6 and 8 East Street, is a pair of houses built in 1859 by William White. They are two-storey structures featuring a tile roof that is half hipped above the rear extensions, with steeply-faced hips above the upper windows, which are positioned just above the eaves level. The walls are constructed of red brick in English bond, accented by a series of flush blue brick bands. Notable features include an upper cill flush band made of yellow and red headers between blue courses, and a band at the level of the ground floor window heads made of alternating yellow and blue headers. The houses have a high two-stepped plinth that stops at the door openings and dips below the ground-floor cills. The lower openings are adorned with cambered on stopped impost courses. All windows are coupled with brick mullions and feature casements. The two doorways have slightly pointed arches, boarded doors, and heavy elaborate wood-framed gabled canopies supported by curved brackets.
