Description
Nos 31 and 33 on London Street are a pair of buildings dating from 1846. They feature a tall, regular facade with two storeys and five windows. The hipped slate roof has wide eaves supported by coupled carved brackets, and there is a chimney stack with a wide cornice and brackets on each face. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches, a first floor band, stone cills, and a plinth. On the east side, there is an oval carriageway arch with a stone key and impost blocks. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals.
The entrance, located at the second bay, is designed in the Doric Order and features tall proportions with half columns, a six-panelled door beneath a plain fanlight, and stone steps. Above the doorway is a rectangular panel displaying a Royal Coat of Arms in relief within an arch moulding. Above this is a rectangular table with a sundial and lettering that includes the date 1846. Additionally, there is a tall narrow doorway at the extreme west side, which has a cambered arch, a deep four-pane fanlight, and a six-panelled door.
