Description

A block of houses dating from the late 18th century, situated on the north side of Horsefair. The building is constructed of brick with a dentil eaves cornice and an old tile roof. The frontages of numbers 7, 9, and 11 are each characterised by a doorway and varying numbers of windows. Number 7 has two windows and a door on the left; number 9, one window and a door on the left; and number 11 has two windows on the first floor, one on the ground floor, and a door to the left. Modern, two-light casement windows are fitted, divided into four sections, with frames to the upper windows set within segmental arches. The doors are six-panelled; numbers 7 and 11 have fielded panels with the top two cut away and glazed, while number 9 has flush panels. Each door is set within a moulded frame, topped by an open, pedimented hood supported by cut scroll brackets. The door at number 11 has a reeded architrave with square paterae in the corners. Numbers 7 and 9 are slightly earlier in date and feature a vitreous brick band at first-floor level. Numbers 7 to 11 form a group with numbers 5 to 13 (odd) and Rydal House, as well as with numbers 37 and 39 Church Street.
