Description
This building is a barn located 30 meters north of Fairbourne's Farm House, dating from the 18th century and incorporating medieval timbers. The barn features brick ends and bases constructed in English bond, with timber boarding on a timber frame. It has a half-hipped plain clay tiled roof with loft doorways in the gables. The structure has a five-bay aisled plan, supported by queen-post double-collar roof trusses that include clasped purlins, with some windbraces being curved. There are central full-height double doors on both long sides, facing north and south. While not all of the interior was accessible for inspection as of June 1988, it was noted that the two main posts on the northeast side are former moulded main floorbeams, one being double-sided and the other single-sided, which may have originated from an earlier house on the site. The slit vents in the gable walls are now blocked. This barn is part of a farmstead that appears to have origins dating back to before 985 AD.
