Description
Nos 8 and 10 Marlborough Street is a building mainly from the 19th century that served as a former school and master's house on the west side. It features a symmetrical facade on the southwest side with two storeys and four windows, closely resembling the design of Nos 12 to 22. The building has a tile roof, with eaves that are interrupted by the heads of the upper windows, which are topped by a brick-faced gable and a central stack. The walls are made of flint with red brick dressings, including quoins, a first-floor band, chamfered openings, and a high plinth. The gables also have similar banding with central verticals. The windows are casements, and there are plain coupled doorways. Above the central entrances, there is a stone panel inscribed with the words: "School restored by Charlotte Elizabeth Pollen widow of Sir John Walter Pollen Bart 1872."
