Description
The building known as the Museum, formerly the Old Grammar School House (Music School), dates from the 18th century. It features a symmetrical front (west) with two storeys and an attic, comprising three windows, along with a later single-storey extension on the north side that has two windows. The roof is tiled and includes two flat-roofed dormers with sash windows. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches and stone vills. The sashes are set in reveals, and there is a Tuscan doorcase with an open pediment, an arched doorway with panelled reveals, a fanlight, and a six-panelled door.
Inside, there is an impressive staircase with two flights, a panelled room featuring a cornice and folding shutters, and additional panelled rooms on the first floor, one of which has an old fireplace. The doorcases and panelled doors throughout add to the interior's character. The rear elevation extends behind the north addition and is regular with six windows, featuring a solid door frame that includes a fanlight and a six-panelled door. Attached to the south is a school building from 1888, which has a symmetrical elevation with similar architectural treatment.
