Description
East Dean Manor House is a house dating from the early 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of brick in English bond and features an old plain tile roof. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a three-bay double pile design, with early 19th-century wings at the rear.
The front of the house has a central six-panel door that is top-lit, along with a rectangular fanlight that has arched glazing bars. This is set in a panelled reveal beneath a moulded flat hood supported by arched brackets. On either side of the door, there are low plinths with offsets and 16-pane flush framed sash windows under rubbed brick arches. Above, on the first floor, there are 16-pane flush framed sash windows on each side of a 12-pane similar window. The eaves are painted and rendered, with an overhanging hipped roof. Between the bays on the roof, there are two-light hip-roofed dormers.
External end stacks are located to the left of both piles and are of a cruciform section. At the front corners, short walls project with archways that end in piers topped with large stone finials. The interior of the house is notable for retaining much of its 18th-century features.
