Description
The barn at Old Michelmersh Farm is an 18th-century structure. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and sits on a brick plinth, topped with a slate roof. The barn has ten bays and includes projecting hipped midstray porches located in the third bay from each end. There is a lean-to at the front between the porches and temporary 20th-century lean-tos along the rear. The barn has double doors to the porches and opposite sides, with stable doors and windows on the lean-to, all constructed in a similar style. The roof is half-hipped. Inside, there is a low-pitched queen-post roof with curved braces supporting the tiebeams, straight windbraces, and diagonal studding in the walls. One end of the barn has a cellar beneath it due to the sloping ground. This barn is part of an 18th-century farm group and is included for its group value.
