Description

Hurstbourne House is a house that dates from the late 17th century, late 18th century, and early 19th century. The original part of the house has a north elevation of two storeys, with three-storeyed cross wings at each end, which were added in the early 19th century. The front unit, facing south, is two storeys high and dates from the 18th century. The walls are made of stucco and the roof is tiled.

The front has three bays that are widely spaced, with the middle bay featuring a shallow recess. The western bay has a wide two-storeyed splayed bay with three windows. There is eaves moulding and a plinth. The windows are sash types set in reveals, with three lights on the ground floor of the east side. The early 19th-century porch has simple pilasters and a pediment gable, featuring a half-glazed door with narrow side panes.

At the rear, the elevation has an irregular arrangement of six leaded casements with mullions and transoms, consisting of two, four, and six lights, along with a gabled doorcase with pilasters. The plain wings, which project at the rear and are recessed at the front, contain sashes, some casements, and a French door. There is also a trellis porch on the first floor at the rear (west side), where the high ground is level with the adjoining churchyard. The east gable of the front is curved, featuring an old upper casement and an early 19th-century tiled bay.
