Description
Dalton House is a large house built in the mid-18th century, with some early 19th-century extensions and detailing. It features a stucco exterior and a tiled roof. The symmetrical front faces southwest and consists of two storeys with three windows, flanked by single-storey wings that have two windows each. The steep hipped roof has eaves moulding with carved dentils, while the wings have brick dentil eaves. The main block is divided by shallow pilasters, coupled at each side, and includes a first-floor band and plinth. The central window is cambered with a key, flanked by Venetian lights, each with a cambered arch—upper lights featuring keys and lower lights with cornices on brackets. The windows are sash style. The doorway is adorned with a moulded cornice on carved brackets, an architrave, and a tall six-panel door topped by a glazed panel designed as a radiating fanlight. The wings have half-hipped roofs, cambered openings, and casements, including one French window. The rear elevation features a continuous outshot connecting the end wings, indicating that these sections are from the early 19th century. Inside, the house retains the original staircase, several panelled doors in low architraves, and plaster cornices on the ceilings.
