Description
Upper Toothill Farmhouse and the attached service range were built in 1861 by J. Bailey-Denton for Lord Palmeston of Broadlands. The farmhouse is L-shaped, made of brick with a slate roof, and consists of two storeys and three bays, with a one-bay wing at the rear. Attached to this wing is a single-storey L-shaped service range that includes a three-bay domestic area and a six-bay range at right angles, with the end three bays serving as a cartshed. The front features a central gabled brick porch with a round-headed arch and curly bargeboards. On both floors, there are 16-pane sash windows and 12-pane sash windows above, all with rubbed arches and hood-moulds. The roof overhangs at each end, and ridge stacks are positioned near each end. The farm homestead is described in "The Farm Homesteads of England" by J. Bailey-Denton, published in 1863.
