Description

The Cottage is a house built in 1751, with a 20th-century cross wing. It features a brick and thatch construction. The original front, facing east, is symmetrical and consists of one storey and an attic with two windows. The roof is half-hipped, with a catslide at the rear and eaves raised above the upper windows; the 20th-century wing has a hipped roof. The brickwork is in Flemish bond with blue headers, and there is a first-floor band, rubbed flat arches over the ground floor windows, and a plinth. The later north gable includes a squared knapped flint wall with brick quoins and exposed framing in the upper part, while the 20th-century walls are made of red brick. The windows are casements, and there is a French door along with a half-glazed porch at the rear. A plaque on the building is inscribed with "WAS 1751."
