Description
The Wheatsheaf Public House is a late 18th century to early 19th century building located on Gosport Street. It is constructed of painted brick and features a modillion eaves cornice and a hipped tiled roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has two windows with sash frames, where the glazing bars are mostly intact. The entrance is marked by a doorway that has a flat hood supported by scroll brackets, leading to a six-panelled door, with the top two panels now glazed. An inn sign that was previously located between the first and second floors has been removed, leaving only the name board on scrolled, wrought iron arms. The Wheatsheaf Public House, along with the Queen Anne's Restaurant opposite, forms a group of buildings of architectural significance.
