Description
Lymington Infirmary is a workhouse that has been converted into a hospital, built in 1836 by S. Kempthome. The building features painted brick with hipped slate roofs and brick axial stacks. The layout includes a superintendent's house, a boardroom, and an administration block at the center of the front, with a large T-plan accommodation range behind. There are single-storey ranges around courtyards at both the front and back, although the north-west wing has been truncated.
The exterior consists of a two-storey block with a front that has a 1:3:1 bay arrangement, where the center is advanced and features a pediment. It includes 12-pane sash windows, a central doorway with a rectangular overlight, and a small hood supported by brackets. The flanking single-storey ranges around the courtyards have sash windows with glazing bars, while the single-storey wings at the rear are not considered of special interest.
