Description
The Church of St Leonard is a parish church with medieval origins, featuring an 18th-century tower that was rebuilt in 1878. It is constructed of brick and reused squared stone, with a flint plinth, a brick tower, and repairs, all topped with a plain tile roof. The layout includes a chancel with a north vestry, a nave, and a west tower, designed in the Decorated style. The east window is a triple lancet with circular tracery above and a hood mould, while other windows are trefoiled, except for an older window on the north side. The gable walls have kneelers, and there are paired lancets in both the nave and the tower. The tower features chamfered lower stages and a pointed west door. Inside, the church has 19th-century elements, including a pointed arch on corbel capitals leading to the vestry and chancel. There are early and mid-19th-century memorials to the Templeman and Purvis families. Access to the tower porch is via five steps, which also features stone tablets from 1762 dedicated to Charles Delafaye and a small plain cylindrical font from the old church.
