Description
The Tide Mill, also known as Quay Mill, is a former tide mill that is currently used as a sailing club. It dates from the 18th century and has some 20th-century alterations. The building is a plain rectangular structure made of brick with a tiled roof. The symmetrical east elevation features two storeys and an attic with five windows. The red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond and includes rubbed cambered arches. The windows are casements. The north gable has both upper and lower doorways. To the west, there is a lower building that once housed the power machinery. Associated with the mill is a sea wall that extends across the shallow valley and includes sluices, which enclose a millpond fed by a stream and, historically, by high tide through the sluices. The building has recently been modernised with new dormers for its current use as a sailing club.
