Description
The dovecote east of Dogmersfield Park dates back to the 16th century. It is cube-shaped with a pyramid roof topped by a square wooden turret that has a lead pyramid on top. The roof is covered in red tiles, and on the north side, there is a small gabled dormer that rests on the eaves. The walls are made of deep red small bricks, primarily laid in English bond, and are about 2 feet thick. Inside, there are 10 tiers of pigeon holes, while the exterior features small openings with little ledges at three levels on three faces. On the west side, there is a low doorway framed in massive timber, and the east side has a wider arched opening that incorporates the extra thickness of the kitchen garden wall. An upper floor has been added later, along with the dormer.
