Description

Old Thatch is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a 19th-century lean-to addition on the left and a 20th-century one-bay lean-to on the right. The original part features a timber-framed lobby entrance with exposed square framing on the first floor, painted brick infill, and modern brick on the ground floor. It has a hipped thatched roof with a centrally positioned brick stack topped with a flat slab. The cottage includes two eyebrow dormers with 20th-century wooden casements and two 20th-century casements on the ground floor, one of which is a five-light window. The doorcase features a 20th-century four-plank studded door with large iron hinges, and there is a large 20th-century gabled weather porch with a tiled roof and brick and timber walls. The 19th-century painted brick lean-to is on the left side, while the left elevation has an original casement window with a pegged wooden architrave and pintle hinges. The 20th-century addition on the right matches the original style, reusing old timbers and featuring painted brick infill. To the far right is a 20th-century weather-boarded lean-to with wavy edge boards. The rear elevation is similar and includes a hoisting notch in one of the upright beams. The lounge has a brick fireplace with a narrow chamfered axial and brick paving. The upper floor has not been seen, but smoke blackening and wattle and daub have been reported.
