Description
The Old Cottage is a building dating from 1686. It has two storeys and features two windows. The roof is hipped and covered with red tiles. The walls are made of red brick, laid in both Flemish and English bond, and there is a band at the first floor that merges into pilasters at each end of the upper wall. The ground-floor openings are cambered, and there is a flush round arch to the doorway, which includes a brick tympanum and a plinth. Above the doorway, there is a square panel with a raised oval, connected to the centre of the four sides by straight straps, all crafted in brickwork. The infilling of this panel is plastered and decorated with floral designs, as well as the date 1686. The windows have been replaced with modern casements, and the door is boarded and set in a solid frame.
