Description
Heckfield Place is a large mansion dating from the mid-18th century, with significant restoration in the 19th century that obscures its earlier origins. The building features a symmetrical design with a central block of three storeys, flanked by two-storey wings with attics. The west front has a window arrangement of 2:2:1:2. The roof is hipped slate with a mansard above the side wings. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with stone dressings that have been largely replaced with cement. Architectural details include a modillion cornice below a blocking course parapet, thin plain pilasters that connect with a first-floor band and plinth, and plain architraves with a flat band cornice. The centre of the façade features rusticated quoins, a pierced balustrade, and a triple window above the entrance door, which is flanked by additional windows. The windows are sash style, while the second floor has casements, including dormers with segmental heads in the mansard. The interior showcases a rich Victorian restoration in a classical style.
