Description
The southern boundary wall of the Royal Clarence Victualling Yard was built in 1829 as part of developments overseen by G L Taylor. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and runs approximately 155 meters in length, lying east to west and positioned about 5.2 meters south of the outer wall of the southern range of the cooperage. The wall rises to about 2.7 meters in height and has a thickness of one and a half bricks, increasing to two bricks thick at a series of broad buttresses on the northern side. At the top, the wall features a brick-on-edge coping, consisting of two courses of single brick thickness, followed by a projecting string course capped with a canted tile course. This wall was built to enclose a new roadway for cattle access to a slaughterhouse that was constructed at the same time.
