Description

The Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and minor changes in the 20th century. It is of group value, contributing to the area’s historic character. The walls are primarily brick, with the front face using blue headers with a red brick plinth and cambered arches. The other walls are in a Flemish Garden Wall bond, also incorporating some blue headers, with a small section of rat-trap bond. The roof is tiled and hipped, with some gables and flat-roofed dormers.

The north front is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and an attic, originally planned for five windows, but with only the upper centre window and a ground-floor window on the west side remaining unblocked. The upper window is an old sash, while the ground-floor window is a Victorian sash. An early 19th-century dormer contains casements. The front door is set within an early 19th-century doorcase, featuring a flat canopy supported on carved brackets, a reeded architrave, a fanlight, and a six-panelled door. Triple sashes are located at each end of the front elevation, and the rear wings contain casements and some Victorian sash windows.

Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase with turned rails and splat balusters in the upper section, and several panelled doors set within architraves. The lower level of the rear section indicates a possible earlier origin, and the front block was raised and given an attic in the early 19th century.
