Description

The Church of All Saints is a parish church that dates from various medieval periods, primarily the late 12th century, and was restored in 1883 by Edmund Ferrey. The church features flint walls that are mostly of Victorian origin, but it includes original stone dressings alongside restoration details, such as small stepped buttresses and a large brick buttress at the east end. The roof is tiled and extends over the aisles, with a separate roof for the north chapel. The nave and chancel are of the same width and feature a continuous arcade, along with a large north chapel, south transept, north and south aisles, and a tower at the west end of the south aisle.

The round arches throughout the church display various mouldings in the late Norman style. On the south side, there are cylindrical columns with scalloped capitals, while the north side features a mix of cylindrical and octagonal columns with moulded capitals. The smaller arches leading to the tower are in the Early English style, and the transept arch is Victorian. Most windows are lancets, but there are also late 15th and early 16th-century lights located at the east end, north chapel, and transept. The church furnishings are Victorian.

A notable feature is a tomb monument to Sir Nicholas Hyde and his lady, which is situated at the east end of the north chapel. Additionally, there are several wall monuments from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. On the north wall at the west end of the nave, there is a restored wall painting from around 1350 that depicts St Michael weighing souls.
