Description

Box Cottage is an 18th-century cottage with an extension built in the mid-19th century. It is located in Wield, Upper Wield. The cottage is constructed of brick and thatch. The front (south) elevation has one storey and an attic, with two windows on the upper level and four on the ground level. The roof is half-hipped at the east end, revealing framing in the gable, and hipped at the west end, descending to a low eaves above an outshot; eaves are raised above the upper windows, and a catslide roof is present at the rear. The walls are of painted brickwork in a Flemish Garden Wall bond, with a first-floor band and a plinth. The windows are casements. A 20th-century brick porch with a tiled roof has been added to the front.
