Description

Ridgemoor Farmhouse is a farmhouse incorporating elements from the 15th century, with substantial additions from the early to mid-19th century. The west wing appears to date from around 1450, although Southampton University's assessment suggests a visible appearance of the early 17th century. The remainder of the house dates from the early to mid-19th century. The front elevation is painted brick on a brick base, while the rear west elevation is red brick with grey headers, and the rear east wing is tile hung. The roof is hipped and tiled, with five brick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high with four windows.

The west wing is lower in elevation and features two 20th-century casement windows to the first floor and early-19th century nine-pane sash windows on the ground floor. The east wing is higher and has two cambered sash windows with vertical glazing bars and horns. A tented iron canopy covers 20th-century steps leading to a half-glazed front door.

The rear elevation has two projecting wings. Two early-19th century iron casements remain, one with Gothic glazing. Timber-framed panels, with the midrail concealed behind 19th-century brickwork, lean to on the west side.

Inside the ground floor of the west wing is an early 17th-century timber frame with a midrail, an open fireplace, a chamfered spine beam, and stopped and chamfered floor joists. The other floors of this wing are not visible. The east wing contains an early-19th century staircase with stick balusters and a columned newel post.
