Description
Cliddesden Down House, formerly known as the Rectory, dates from the 18th century to the early 19th century. This building stands two storeys tall with an attic and features a symmetrical front with one storey south wing. It has a hipped slate roof topped with a pediment at the center and a narrow brick dentil cornice. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with pilasters marking the centerpieces, a first-floor band, and a plinth. The south wing has a parapet with a moulded stone cornice and rubbed flat arches. The windows are sashes set in exposed frames, and the pediment includes a circular window in the tympanum, featuring radiating and uneathed glazing. The heavy plain doorway is adorned with an open pediment, wide plain pilasters with simple caps, a semi-circular fanlight, and a six-panelled door. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase.
