Description

Budds Farmhouse is an 18th and early 19th century building, associated with William Cobbett, who began his Rural Rides from here in 1821. The west elevation is two storeys with six windows, featuring a hipped tile roof and a moulded brick cornice to the eaves. The brick walling is painted in Flemish bond, incorporating flint panels, a first-floor band, cambered openings, and moulding to the plinth. Mid-19th century cast-iron casements with a diamond design are present. A plain doorway is sheltered by a shallow, open porch with a gabled front and balusters in the timber frame. The rear of the house displays two tile-hung gables with scalloped bands, alongside smaller Gothic windows. A later extension is located at the south-east corner, distinguished by a low-pitched slate roof, Victorian sash windows, and a south gable hung with scalloped tiles. The internal structure is timber-framed.
