Description
Hydes Farmhouse is a late 17th-century L-shaped house that stands two storeys high with an attic. The main front, which faces east, is symmetrical and features a window arrangement of two, one, and two. The roof is hipped and covered with tiles, and it has a large, fully-moulded cornice with modillions that are angled at the corners and set-offs. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, incorporating blue headers, a band at the first floor, rubbed arches on the ground floor, and a high plinth. The windows are sashes set in reveals, although some former windows have been flush-filled. On the north side, there is a wide early 19th-century, three-light sash window beneath a cambered opening. The entrance features a half-glazed door within a solid frame. The symmetrical south side has a window arrangement of one, one, and one, following the same pattern but is now cement rendered, with a plain door located in the slightly projecting centrepiece. The north side of the west elevation has a low eaves above a 19th-century addition located within the angle, while the short south side wall has a projecting centrepiece with one window, again matching the roof and wall treatment. There is one tall chimney stack with vertical offsets.
