Description
Nos 162, 163, and 164 on Vyne Road are mid-19th century estate cottages designed as a large single unit in a Tudor style. The building is two storeys high, with a symmetrical front facing southeast. This front features a recessed centre flanked by a window on each side of a slightly projecting section that has a gabled top and a ground-floor porch. Each side of the building has a wing with one window and a gable. The roof is tiled and has decorative scalloped bargeboards, along with two rectangular stacks topped with coupled diagonal flues. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond with blue headers, and there are red Dutch flat arches, while the gables are filled with red herringbone brickwork. The windows are casements, and there are gabled porches at the centre and north end, featuring rusticated edges on the recessed cheek panels and boarded doors. The south end has a part tiled roof with a brick wall below the eaves, creating a passageway that contains the entrance. There are modern extensions at the rear.
