Description

Roundtown is a pair of estate cottages, likely built between 1800 and 1813, with later extensions in the 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of Flemish bond red brick with blue headers and feature clay plain tile roofs with gabled and half-hipped ends. There are brick axial and gable-end stacks.

The layout consists of three pavilions, with a larger central pavilion flanked by two cottages. These are connected by single-storey quadrants that house services. Originally, each pavilion contained a pair of cottages, but the east pavilion was extended to the east in the late 19th century, and the pairs of cottages were converted into single cottages in the 20th century.

The exterior of the central pavilion is two stories high with three bays, featuring a pedimental gable and a blind window on the first floor. The doorway is located to the left of the center. The single-storey quadrant outbuildings are positioned to the right and left, with flanking cottages that face inward. Each of these cottages is one story with an attic, featuring three windows, central doors, casements, and attic windows in half-hipped gable ends. Attached to the rear of the right (east) cottage is a later 19th-century cottage that is two stories and has two bays. The rear of the central pavilion displays a large blind round arch, with the curved back walls of the quadrant links on either side. The interior was remodeled in the late 19th century. The source for this information is a tithe map from 1839.
