Description

Little Tunnel Bridge, including the canal tunnel, dates from around 1790 and is part of the Basingstoke Canal, which in this area is now drained and partly filled in. The bridge features a brick arched short tunnel, with each face displaying a recessed panel above the arch and circular panels on either side. Although the parapet has mostly been lost, it is supported by a projecting band on brick stepped corbels. The towpath wall and cutwaters are also constructed of brick. Each facade has a slight curve in plan and is battered at the base, built in red brick using English bond.
