Description

The garden wall at Basing House dates from the 16th century and stands between 8 to 12 feet high. It is constructed of red brick, although much of the weathered top has been lost over time. The wall features plinths at various levels and is primarily built in English bond, with sections displaying diaper patterns created with blue headers. The presence of non-conforming jointing and some header banding indicates that different periods of construction are likely related to the development of the Old and New House.
