Description
Basing House is a two-storey dwelling built in the mid-19th century, with later alterations and additions. The central part of the house features two upper windows and a large porch, flanked by gabled sections that each have one window. The roof is tiled, and while the decorative bargeboards appear to have been replaced, some lower parts of the finials remain. The central section has a parapet with pierced decoration. The lower walls are constructed with old bricks in English bond, while the upper part features later brickwork in Monk and English bond. The east wing projects forward on thin columns and is entirely tile-hung with scalloped bands. The openings are Gothic pointed arches of various sizes, with casement windows, and the east gable includes a large bay window. A recent addition on the west side has a straight tile-hung gable above a wall with three facets and casements. The porch, which is accessed by a flight of steps, has a steep tiled roof with elaborate bargeboard decoration and an open oak frame featuring straight and curved strutting, with the lower part filled with flint panels. Inside the porch is a plain arched doorway. The rear of the building has gabled extensions from the late 19th century.
