Description

The Suspension Bridge in Sherborne St John is an early 19th-century footbridge that spans the western moat. It features two piers on each bank that support a chain system. The bridge is constructed of red brick with stone caps and ball finials. Between the inner piers, there is a wrought-iron gateway adorned with a scroll overthrow. Low approach walls flank the bridge, enclosing two steps, and are topped with sculptured greyhounds on the coping.
