Description
The barn and outbuilding to the north-east of Hydes Farmhouse date from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features an old timber frame constructed in two periods, each consisting of two bays that meet at a slight angle. The lower outbuilding is primarily an open shed on the inner side, extending to the west and turning at right angles to create a visual link with the farmhouse at a prominent corner. The barn truss includes straight struts, and there is an aisle located to the east of the central, south-facing cantilevered entrance. The roofing consists of corrugated asbestos, with some areas of corrugated iron over the barn, while the shed has tiling made of inner corrugated iron. The barn has weather-boarded walling, and the outer wall of the shed is constructed of red brickwork in Flemish bond, featuring blue headers. This structure is included for its group value.
