Description

The Old Rectory is a large Tudor-style house built in 1850 by W J Dunthorne. It is a symmetrical two-storey building with a main west front of 1.3.1 windows. The steeply pitched slate roof is characteristic of the style. The external walls are flint with stone dressings, including quoins and hoodmolds. A plinth runs along the base. The building has gabled projecting sides, featuring a finial at the internal angle and a stack supported by brackets, topped with paired Tudor-patterned flues. A central gable is flanked by finials. A wide, centrally placed doorway has a pointed arch. The windows are casements, with mullions on the first floor and mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floor. The south elevation includes a two-storey bay with a lead ogee roof and a substantial attached stack with set-offs and a triple Tudor-patterned flue at the top.
