Description

Aladdin's Cottage is a Grade II listed building originally constructed as a threshing barn in the early 17th century. It has since been used as tearooms and is now holiday accommodation. The building was modified in the 1920s and again around 1983. It features a timber frame that is now clad in 20th-century brickwork, except for the southwest side, which retains 17th-century brickwork in English garden wall bond. The cottage has a steeply pitched thatched roof with an early 20th-century chimneystack added to the southwest. It is a single storey with an attic that was inserted around 1983. The front of the cottage has a gabled midstrey with a 1983 eyebrow dormer above and three 20th-century casement windows with leaded lights. The rear elevation includes four 20th-century casement windows. Attached to the southwest is a converted animal house, which is not of special interest.

The building has a three-bay plan, with an aisle to the northwest. Inside, the timber frame features a midrail and curved braces in the wall frame. The aisle posts are mostly intact, although one has been partially renewed in brickwork, and they include curved tension braces. The roof consists of a collar beam, purlins, and original pegged rafters without a ridgepiece. An open fireplace from the 1920s has been inserted, along with room partitions and a ceiling that were added around 1983, all in a matching style.
