Description

These stables, likely dating from the early 18th century, are situated approximately 30 metres east of Manor Farmhouse. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared blue headers, a brick plinth, and a brick plat band at first floor level to the front and ends. The gable ends are weatherboarded, and the roof is covered with plain clay tiles, featuring half-hipped ends.

The original plan was rectangular, with ground floor doorways centrally positioned on the front and at the south end, and loft doorways at both ends. The east front features a central doorway with a rebuilt brick segmental arch and a 20th-century plank door. Small window openings flank the doorway, also with flat brick arches and 20th-century casements. A small loft hatch is found at the rear (west) under the eaves, with an old boarded door and wrought iron hinges. A stable doorway and loft doorway with a 20th-century external wooden staircase are located at the south end. The north end has a ground floor window and a loft doorway in the gable, both with plank doors.

Inside, the ground floor is supported by three chamfered cross-beams with run-out stops. A section of an old wooden manger remains on the back wall, along with hatches in the floor above. The stalls are no longer present. Although the first floor was not inspected, photographs indicate the presence of 19th-century crown-posts, potentially inserted to strengthen an earlier structure.
