Description

This is a timber-framed building located in High Street, Winchelsea, with some elements dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. It was substantially altered in the 18th century and later modernised. The building is two storeys high with an attic. The front elevation, facing High Street, has seven windows and is clad in cream-coloured weather-boarding, with a gable at each end. The windows are sash windows retaining their glazing bars. The roof is tiled. The side elevation, facing St Thomas’s Street, has one window. The ground floor of this side is faced with stone rubble, while the upper section is clad with tarred weather-boarding. Inside, there are ceiling beams and a king-post roof. A vaulted cellar, dating back to around 1300, is situated beneath the house.
