Description
70-72 All Saints Street is a building dating from the early 16th century. It is a three-bay medieval hall house that has undergone significant alterations, particularly to the lower (south) solar. Despite these changes, the central hall remains visible. The building has been recently restored and features timber framing with plaster panels, while No 72 is entirely plastered. The roof is tiled with three hipped sections that project. The structure is two storeys high and consists of four bays. The left-hand bay is recessed, while the other three bays oversail on the first floor, with the centre bay displaying a carved bressumer. The windows are mostly modern casements with leaded panes, and No 72 has later casements set in early 19th-century sash frames. No 70 features a canted bay window that has been much restored, with glazing bars, and an early 19th-century shopfront that has been entirely replaced by a modern multi-pane dwelling window. The doors are modern, with No 70 having a panelled door and No 72 a glazed door. Inside, there are some moulded beams. All the listed buildings in All Saints' Street are part of a group.
